LA MOSTRA

In Essence: decostruire il nudo,

si configura come una profonda esplorazione retrospettiva dell’autoritratto, in cui la tradizionale  dicotomia tra artista e modello, osservatore e osservato, si dissolve senza soluzione di 

continuità. Il lavoro di Jacinta Tomyn non è semplicemente una rappresentazione visiva del corpo  umano; è un dialogo profondamente introspettivo, un diario visivo di vulneblità e un coraggioso  atto di scoperta di sé che sfida i tabù sociali profondamente radicati che circondano l’erotismo e 

la sensualità. Attraverso una magistrale manipolazione di luce, ombra, texture e tecnica  fotografica, l’artista trascede i limiti fisici della carne per catturare l’essenza eterea  dell’identità umana. 

Questa mostra intreccia cinque progetti fondamentali:

What Remains, Denied Exposure, Defined, Shadows e Claiming Space, ognuno dei quali rappresenta un capitolo distinto della 

sua evoluzione artistica e personale. 

Nelle serie What Remains e nella sua espansione psicologica Denied Exposure, Jacinta Tomyn impiega una tecnica stenopeica adattata per oscurare e frammentare intenzionalmente l’immagine. L’estetica risultante è sgranata, sfocata e ossessivamente ambigua. Questa deliberata limitazione della definizione fotografica funziona sia materialmente che metaforicamente. Sfida l’aspettativa di chiarezza dello spettatore, catturando un’inafferrabile alterità. I ritratti oscurati e i gesti frammentati parlano delle pressioni sociali e della censura che spesso circondano il nudo, offrendo al contempo un velo protettivo che permette all’essenza interiore del soggetto di irradiarsi oltre la forma fisica. 

A contrastare questa eterea ambiguità sono le serie Defined e Shadows. Qui, l’artista agisce come una scultrice di luce. 

In Defined, la forma umana viene distillata nelle sue linee e curve più essenziali, stagliandosi su sfondi netti e ad alto contrasto. Il corpo diventa un paesaggio astratto, una topografia di elegante geometria. 

Shadows continua questa esplorazione in una narrazione in continua evoluzione in cui neri profondi e abissali consumano la composizione, lasciando solo delicati frammenti di luce a definire la silhouette. Questo gioco di occultamento e rivelazione invita lo spettatore a riempire gli spazi mancanti con le proprie 

interpretazioni, ingaggiando un dialogo silenzioso con l’opera. 

Infine, la serie Claiming Space agisce come un culmine luminoso di emancipazione femminile. 

Caratterizzate da toni morbidi e delicati e da un’illuminazione high-key, queste immagini giustappongono intenzionalmente pose audaci e sicure a una leggerezza quasi eterea.

È una celebrazione della sensualità femminile che smantella 

attivamente le narrazioni di vergogna e costrizione che hanno storicamente segnato l’esperienza femminile.

The Exhibition

In Essence: deconstructing the nude,

serves as a profound retrospective exploration into self-portraiture, where the traditional dichotomy between artist and model, observer and observed, is seamlessly dissolved.

Jacinta Tomyn’s work is not merely a visual representation of the human body; it is a deeply introspective dialogue, a visual diary of vulnerability, and a courageous act of self-discovery that challenges deeply entrenched societal taboos surrounding eroticism and sensuality. Through a masterful manipulation of light, shadow, texture, and photographic technique, the artist transcends the physical limitations of the flesh to capture the ethereal essence of human identity. 

This exhibition weaves together five pivotal projects:

What Remains, Denied Exposure, Defined, Shadows and Claiming Space each representing a distinct chapter in her artistic and personal evolution. 

In the series What Remains and its psychological expansion Denied Exposure, Jacinta Tomyn employs an adapted pinhole technique to intentionally obscure and fragment the image. The resulting aesthetic is grainy, blurred, and hauntingly ambiguous. This deliberate limitation of photographic definition functions both 

materially and metaphorically. It challenges the viewer’s expectation of clarity, capturing an elusive “otherness.”

The obscured portraits and fragmented gestures speak to the societal pressures and censorship that often surround the nude, while simultaneously offering a protective veil that allows the subject’s inner essence to radiate beyond  the physical form. 

Contrasting this ethereal ambiguity are the series Defined and Shadows. Here, the artist acts as a sculptor of light. In Defined, the human form is distilled to its most essential lines and curves, set against stark, high-contrast backgrounds. The body becomes an abstract landscape, a topography of elegant geometry. 

Shadows continues this exploration in an ever-evolving narrative where deep, abyssal blacks consume the frame, leaving only delicate slivers of light to define the silhouette. This interplay

of concealment and revelation invites the viewer to fill in the missing spaces with their own interpretations, engaging in a silent dialogue with the artwork.

Finally, the Claiming Space series acts as a luminous culmination of female empowerment. 

Characterized by soft, delicate tones and high-key lighting, these images intentionally juxtapose bold, self-assured poses with an almost ethereal lightness. It is a celebration of feminine sensuality that actively dismantles the narratives of shame and constraint that have historically marked the female experience.
